About the Toronto Vegetarian Association

TVA logo featuredFounded in 1945, the Toronto Vegetarian Association (TVA) is Toronto’s go-to resource for all things veg.

Our mission is to inspire people to choose a healthier, greener, more compassionate lifestyle through plant-based eating. We envision a world where people think critically about their food choices, where growing numbers of businesses, community groups, and organizations inspire people to make healthier, greener, more compassionate choices, and where nutritious, sustainable, plant-based foods are accessible to all.

We pride ourselves on providing expert information, celebrating Toronto’s diversity, embracing our grassroots, volunteer-driven history, and being fiscally and socially responsible, and eco-friendly.

Our Programs

Veg Food Fest: North America’s largest vegan festival! This free, three day event is held at the Harbourfront Centre each September, with more than 150 plant-based vendors, dozens of hours of free cooking demonstrations and lectures, and more.

Veg Guide: Your guide to the GTA’s veg and veg-friendly restaurants, stores, and more. Available in print copy, on our website, and through our mobile app.

Resource Centre: A drop-in library and bookstore open Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons. Borrow a cookbook for an entire month free of charge or ask questions of our helpful volunteers.

Social Groups and Meet Ups: More than 15 social groups get together monthly or bi-monthly at local restaurants, for potlucks, and even for special outings like hikes and play dates for children.

The Veggie Challenge: The 7-Day Veggie Challenge is a free, online program that supports people in trying a plant-based diet for one week with recipes, nutritional guidance, and more.

Special Events: TVA hosts a rotating variety of events throughout the year, including our Holiday and Spring Markets. Past events have included the Vegan Bake Off, Veggielicious, and the Veggie Parade.

Community Outreach: Toronto Vegetarian Association volunteers attend dozens of trade shows and community events throughout the GTA to promote a vegetarian diet and encourage people to take the 7-Day Veggie Challenge.
