VEDTalks: The Thought Provokers
April 27, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
And now for something familiar…but different. Introducing: “VEDTalks…Seeds Worth Planting”. Based on the well-known TEDTalks…but with a bright-green vegan twist!
Plant-Based (R)evolution, Calling All Vegans, and Compassion on the Streets are delighted to be hosting the first instalment in a series of presentations meant to inform, motivate, inspire, and provoke thought. And of course we will have lots of FOOD (scroll down for details)! Apologies for the time and venue change!
Bring along a non-vegan friend and receive a treat for both of you!
This segment: THE THOUGHT PROVOKERS. Please meet our wonderful VEDTalkers:
KEVIN LAHEY, co-host of the sizzling-hot “THE LIVEGAN PODCAST”, will share some of the background of his work as a factory farm and slaughterhouse undercover investigator and will also present “2079”, a chronology of how slaughtering animals will become illegal over the next 60 years.
ISSAC BROWN, content creator of the cerebral and wildly popular “Ask Yourself” YouTube channel and occasional mentor for Joey Carbstrong, will discuss “good argumentation” and how critical it is that we sharpen our skills when speaking up for animals to make us more effective activists.
GABRIEL NADLER aka rapper, Gaiaisi – Gaia’s Eye – Gaia.Is.I, is fighting ignorance, saving animal lives, and shattering the myth that “Vegans Are Weak” through his music, comedy, and clever commentary. His talk will centre around vegan voting strategies and politics being an essential part of the fight to achieve animal liberation.
All three speakers will be available for a panel discussion after the presentation to clarify, amplify, and fortify their talks.
No vegan event would be complete without food, glorious food! Bring your appetite as well as containers/plates/utensils for delicious free samples and take-home purchases. Vendors for our mini marketplace confirmed thus far are:
VEGAN STOKES CHEESE / TINA STOKES (artisanal gourmet cheeses crafted with passion and compassion…we are STOKED to have them join us!)
BROWN SUGAR / ADAM BERHANE (educational food company honouring African excellence through delicious vegan treats…they make learning history fun!)
VEGANS4LIFE / ALICE MELISSA (Beyond Meat, Gardein, and Violife distributor…need we say more?)
THE VEGANABLER / KELLY KERR (vegan facilitator, private chef, and food activist specializing in comfort foods and making bellies round and happy)
TORONTO VEGETARIAN ASSOCIATION WORLDWIDE VEGAN BAKE SALE! / SARAH FAY (mobilising people around the world to bake vegan treats and raise funds for charitable causes…and “bake” the world a better place one cookie at a time)
NONA FOODS / KAILEY GILCHRIST (the Sauce Boss will be in da house with her delicious creamy sauces…a kitchen collision between a kooky Italian mama and a modern vegan diet)
SAVOR LIVING / CHEF DARIIA KNYSH (delicious, healthy chef-crafted meals that are a life-“savor” for busy people)
OVER THE MOON SHOES / SABRINA LOURENCO (vegan shoe brand designed in Toronto and ethically handmade in Brazil…the future of fashion without animal exploitation)
(website being unveiled soon)
CANADA GOOSE PRESSURE CAMPAIGN (an anti-speciesist animal liberation grassroots initiative demanding that Canada Goose, a clothing corporation, end their use of animals in the making of their products, and switch to use only non-animal alternatives)
EXTINCTION REBELLION TORONTO (to spark and sustain a spirit of creative rebellion, which will enable much-needed changes in our political, economic, and social landscape, they endeavour to mobilise and train organisers to skilfully open up space, so that communities can develop the tools they need to address our deeply-rooted problems, and work to transform our society into one that is compassionate, inclusive, sustainable, equitable and connected)
Please consider bringing a small item or two for Compassion on the Streets’ “Houseless Project”. Donations such as vegan snack bars, tokens, cruelty-free toiletries, and pet food (vegan) will be distributed on your behalf to those in need. No clothing, please. Thank you!
If you are unable to attend, but still wish to make a financial donation to either Compassion On The Streets or Plant-Based (R)evolution, please visit the P-BR Facebook page, click “Learn More”, which will direct you to our PayPal, and then please indicate to which group you wish the funds directed.
There will also be an opportunity to have your voice heard on some pressing Canadian bills which are in danger of “dying on the order paper” and needing to go back to square one if not passed before Parliament rises for summer recess on June 21, 2019. SOUMEN KARMAKAR of Compassion on the Streets will walk us through the simple steps we need to take to weigh in and make positive changes for animals in the political arena.
There is no charge for this event, but donations will be gratefully accepted.
HUGE thanks and gratitude to the generous and talented Patrick Biller for creating our cool and creative logo for the series!
The venue very graciously made available to us is two floors of bright, unique, cool space which will be arranged to accommodate our guests, speakers, and the market people.
