Veg Out 436: The history of vegan punk in Toronto

On today’s episode we are joined by Shawn Chirrey, the co-author of the recent book Tomorrow is Too Late – Toronto Hardcore Punk in the 1980s. We also welcome Shawn MacDonald and Al Ridley to join in on the discussion about veganism, punk, animal rights, and how they all overlapped in 1980s Toronto. He was also a punk promoter in the ’80s/’90s and manager, tour manager and roadie for several bands (Problem Children, MDC, and Guilt Parade) and was a DJ in the ’90s and ’00s (and still DJs!). Al Ridely owned Sadie’s (Toronto’s favourite veg dinner) for nearly a decade and was a punk promoter and publisher of a fanzine (both called Favorite Stooge).
