Now Open!   The Hearty Hooligan (368 Main St. W., Hamilton, 905-807-0577, www.theheartyhooligan.com) is now open! You may remember we reported on the upcoming opening of this vegan, comfort food location back in October last year… Well it’s finally open as of this February! The Hearty Hooligan is a punk-themed take-out spot serving up hot and ready to go vegan comfort food. “We have all kinds of wild flavours of pizza pockets, like Mac n’ Cheese, Poutine, Butter Chicken (pictured), Philly Cheesesteak, and more. We do nostalgic treats like Dunkaroos (called Punkaroos) and S’mores pop tarts. New Vegan & Vegan-friendly Locations   Planta (1221 Bay St.) is opening soon in Yorkville! In case you haven’t heard yet, Planta is a new vegan restaurant set to open this September in the old location of Pangea. While another vegan restaurant in Toronto may not be surprising news, this one will offer something unique. Planta will be an impressive 165-seat restaurant that will offer an internationally inspired cuisine, organic wines, and cocktails made from fresh-pressed juice, and the menus will be the creation of award-winning Chef David Lee of Nota Bene on Queen West. Chef David Lee and Chase Hospitality Group (the group behind four other popular Toronto restaurants) are partners in the opening of Planta, and say that Planta will offer daily lunch, dinner, possibly grab and go breakfast, as well as takeout. The word is that Planta will be open in time for TIFF (Sept. 8-18), which isn’t long to wait!
