Help us host our 2021 Veg Food Fest Popup!

Veg Food Fest is now officially one week away! We are SO excited to be back in person this year hosting our iconic festival. Like many other small organizations, and particularly as a non-profit, we were hit hard by COIVD19, and were unable to host any in-person fundraising events last year. We were only able to stay active thanks to the generous support of our loyal members and donors.

Despite this challenge, we were determined to ensure this year’s Veg Food Fest still happened, while keeping it free and accessible to the public. This is because we value the community we’ve built through this organization, and want to continue to watch it grow.

We know there are many different reasons people choose more plant-based options; whether it be for their health, the environment, animal rights, or the various intersectional social justice concerns around animal agriculture. Whatever your reason is, we want you to know we see you making a difference in the world, and you have a community of support here at the Toronto Vegetarian Association.

This is also why we’ve decided to keep VFF 100% free to attend, so it can remain as accessible to the public as possible, and so we can continue to grow our circle. We want vegans and vegetarians to be able to find communities of like minded and encouraging people, learn new recipes, find new sustainable products, and share ideas and support.

In a non-veg world, we know how isolating it can be leading a lifestyle that goes against the status quo. We know it can feel like our choices as an individual won’t make a difference… but when we come together as a community, our small choices add up to create big changes. This is why we strongly believe in creating a space for vegans, vegetarians, and those who are veg-curious alike at Veg Food Fest.

Not only do we want to keep VFF alive to create a sense of community for vegans and vegetarians, but we also know that the work our organization does is so important for omnivores as well. Veg Fest is an invaluable opportunity for the veg-curious to try vegan foods and make informed decisions about their diets and lifestyles. In fact, at our last in-person event in 2019, 72% of our non-veg attendees decided to reduce –or even completely eliminate– their consumption of animal products after attending our event!

When we take into account the stats that on average, one day of eating vegan saves roughly 4,164L of water, 9kg of CO2, 3sq m of forest, 18kg of grain, and one animal life, it becomes evident how important this Food Fest is in inspiring our mission of a greener, more compassionate lifestyle. This demonstrates that not only can we make a difference as individuals, but when we come together as a community, the difference we can make is immense.

This is why keeping VFF free and accessible is something that has never changed with us here at the TVA, no matter the difficulties we’ve faced. However, running an in-person event is no small feat – to host the event for only one day this year is costing us over $12,000 in venue fees and costs, and hundreds of hours of staff and volunteer time. Keeping the event free means we have to make up for the cost of the event in other ways – which is why now more than ever, we need your help.

If you’d like to see a greener, healthier, more compassionate world through plant based eating as much as we do, please donate today, to help us make this a reality. Thank you for your continued support and for reading our blog. We look forward to connecting with you at this year’s Veg Food Fest Popup!
