Job Opportunity: Bookkeeper/Accountant

Position Overview: The Toronto Vegetarian Association (TVA) is an inclusive, pro-vegan non-profit organization that inspires people to choose a healthier, greener, more compassionate lifestyle through
plant-based eating. TVA is seeking a detail-oriented bookkeeping professional to provide bookkeeping and certain accounting services. The Bookkeeper/Accountant will assist in the execution of a variety of
financial duties including the preparation and maintenance of all financial records. The organization is seeking to fill this role through a service agreement with an independent contractor.
Responsibilities
Bookkeeping
Post deposits, supplier invoices and payments
Prepare weekly deposits
Prepare electronic or manual cheques for paying supplier invoices
Prepare bank reconciliations and other account reconciliations
Reconcile donations database against payment processing statements and bank transactions
Prepare manual bi-weekly salaried payroll cheques and monthly source deduction remittances
Prepare monthly financial statements for the Executive Director and Treasurer for presentation to the Board of Directors
Accounting
Prepare annual T4, T4A and T4NR4 slips and summaries
Prepare annual HST return
Prepare annual charity return
Prepare month-end and year-end adjusting entries
Preparing for and managing annual third-party audit process (including preparation of lead sheets and financial statements)
Assist with the preparation of budgets for funding proposals and financial reports for funders
Other
Provide orientation and training upon request to the Executive Director or others concerning the
TVA’s accounting/finance systems
Prepare financial applications on behalf of TVA (e.g., CEWS, CERS)
Additional responsibilities as required by TVA
Requirements
Four year bachelor’s degree with major in accounting or equivalent, CPA preferred
Minimum of two years experience in bookkeeping for a charitable organization
Thorough knowledge and experience in all aspects of bookkeeping, relevant accounting principles and practices
Sound knowledge of QuickBooks and Excel
Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a high degree of efficiency and accuracy
Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of vegan issues and philosophy
Assets

Job Details
Reports to: Executive Director
Works with: Executive Director, TVA& Audit and Finance Committee and Treasurer
Expected commitment: 10-20 hours per month
Compensation: $30 hourly
This is a twelve-month part-time contract (with an opportunity for renewal) and may include a probationary period
