January Veg Guide Updates

January 1, 2020

Happy New Year!

We’re starting the year off right with a bunch of new restaurants, new places serving vegan food, and candy. Welcome!

First, just a plug; have you signed up for Veganuary yet?  Even if you’re already vegan, you’ll get a month of helpful emails with recipes, health tips and more! Share the link with that friend who always says going vegan is “too hard.” They’ll thank you for it!

Now, onto the news!

AM Bagel

53 Roncesvalles Avenue

If bagels are your thing (and let’s be honest, they’re delish), AM Bagel on Roncesvalles features great bagels with about half their menu being vegan offerings. Make it a sandwich with vegan lox, hummus and avocado, vegan egg, or even a vegan “macca”–featuring a burger patty, special sauce, lettuce, onion, and pickle. Finish up with a coffee, and you’re set!

Bistro Vie

105 King Street West, Dundas, ON

Made from scratch comfort food is the focus here, at this new vegan restaurant and cafe. Bistro Vie also has meals to go, fresh coffee and vegan hot chocolate as well as vegan wines. Check it out!

Enat Buna

175 Queen Street East

This is the THIRD month in a row that we’re reporting on an established restaurant in Toronto changing their menu to eliminate meat. This month it’s Ethiopian Café Enat Buna on Queen Street East near George Brown. They do catering and brunch as well, and their food looks so tasty!

OV Sweets

542 Oakwood Ave.,

Finally, a pick-and-mix candy shop that isn’t full of gelatin! The newest shop in Oakwood’s Vegan Village is this low-waste candy store, featuring bulk candy, cookies, sponge toffee and more! Fill up one of their jars, and bring it back next time. Also, it looks like they have video games to play too–we can’t wait to visit!

We’re hearing that the mega sandwich chain Subway is rolling out Beyond Meat meatball subs at locations in Toronto! Give this a try without cheese on one of their vegan bread options for a quick, readily available lunch option.

White Rabbit

We don’t know much, but opening soon at Bay and College is a new low-waste vegan cafe called White Rabbit. Hopefully, there’ll be a full update on this spot next month!
