December Veg Guide Updates
Wow, December already! As we welcome the shorter days and the holidays, we’re here to being you the first of two Veg Guide updates this month! This edition highlights all the new places to go in TO. The next edition, coming to you Dec 10th will show off all the specials, holiday treats, and more that Veg Guide businesses have to offer.
Check out all these new businesses!
2 Brock St. W., Uxbridge
This popular cafe in Uxbridge has recently gone 100% vegan! This is the second month in a row we’re reporting that a restaurant has made this change, and it’s just such a great result. Stop by The Bar the next time you’re in Uxbridge for their delish smoothies, juice and fresh food!
102 Lupin Dr., Whitby
We’ve heard that this new doughnut place in Whitby has long lines every day! This is a good sign, and if their doughnuts are as good as the line suggests, you’re in for a treat the next time you’re in Whitby. Crave Doughnuts has three vegan flavours of doughnuts daily, and are a welcome addition to the dessert scene in Durham!
3080 Dundas St. W.
Opening in the same space once occupied by Grasshopper in the Junction, Green Haven serves East Asian food with a Canadian twist! If you miss the dishes that Grasshopper served, we think that Green Haven will help with that–we hear that much of the same team is running this place and that some old favourites are still on the menu!
476 Roncesvalles Ave.
Now open in Roncesvalles Village, Sorry I’ve Got Plants–who are known for their great meal kits–has opened a general store! Find a variety of grab-and-go foods, as well as coffee, health + beauty essentials, and more!
9 Roncesvalles Ave.
Another entry on Roncesvalles Ave, local faves South Asian Dosa Mahal are opening a new location! This is not to replace their Lansdowne spot–they’re still looking for a location in that neighbourhood. This new spot is opened by a family member, and promises to have many of the same faves. We can’t wait!
923 Queen St. W.
This new taco place across the street from Trinity Bellwoods is a great place to warm up after a walk in the park! Most items on the menu are vegan, and are divided between “tacos” and “not tacos”. Plus, considering that Tacos Rico is brought to you by the same people who own Grand Electric, it’ll definitely be good!
Now open at Oakwood and Vaughan, Vegwood focuses on affordable, delicious vegan food. We can’t wait to see what they bring to this vegan food lacking neighbourhood.
Fast Food Updates:
Starting next week, A&W will be offering plant-based chicken nuggets made by LIghtlife at locations in Ontario! This is big news, as anything other than a veggie burger at fast food places is usually unheard of! A&W’s plum and BBQ sauces are also vegan, so dip to your heart’s content!
New additions to the Veg Guide:
7210 Airport Rd., Malton
This restaurant in Brampton offers Indian fusion cuisine. Pizza, lasagna, burgers and more are served up with Indian flavours and ingredients, while they also serve classic dishes; chaat, biryani, samosas and more! Everything is vegetarian, and vegan options are clearly labelled.
With almost 70 locations globally, all-vegetarian restaurant Saraavana Bhavan serves up some great South Indian meals – from soft, fluffy idlis to sambhar, vadas, vast varieties of dosas and uttapams like masala, melagipodi, and chutneys like coconut and tomato. They have two locations in the GTA, in Scarborough and Mississauga; check them out!
