New Vegan Locations
Copper Branch (199 Bay St., 416-792-2982, www.copperbranch.ca) is opening a location this month downtown in Commerce Court! Copper Branch is a plant-based, fast food restaurant based out of Montreal. They opened their first Ontario location a couple of years ago in Brooklin (just north of Whitby), and word is quickly spreading about their delicious vegan menu. Loaded with healthy and colourful power bowls, sandwiches, soups & sides, as well as grab ‘n go items, Copper Branch offers generous servings of healthy fast-food. “We’re getting back to basics; serving healthy and wholesome foods and offering real food energy with the focus of promoting health and vitality, great taste, convenience, and responsibility. These are power food meals you can trust and feel great about eating.” Try the Aztec Bowl (pictured) with basil olive oil dressing, sweet potato, corn and mango salsa, black beans, pumpkin seeds, guacamole, vegan sour cream, broccoli, beets, carrot, lettuce, organic sprouted mung beans, the Copper Burger with beets, organic brown rice, pea protein, sesame seeds, hemp seeds, sunflower seeds, lemon juice, dijon and maple vegenaise, caramelized onions, alfalfa sprouts, lettuce, or one of their many grab ‘n go items, like the Caesar Salad with Ginger Garlic Wings. Copper Branch also has all-day breakfast options, and is open from 7:30am – 7pm, Mon – Fri, and from 9am – 2pm on Saturdays. Ethiopia Restaurant (1104 Danforth Ave., 416-551-1777, www.ethiopiavegan.ca) recently opened on the Danforth, and is the first fully vegan Ethiopian restaurant in Toronto. “Come enjoy the exotic taste of Ethiopia in Toronto. From the minute you walk into Ethiopia Restaurant, you’ll be surrounded by the sights and smells from back home. Our menu is full of delicious Ethiopian vegan options.” They also feature a juice bar, and a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony. Open 3pm – 9pm every day except Tuesdays. Hippocrates’ Daughter (1 Mountain St., Grimsby, 289-235-8841, www.hippocratesdaughter.ca) is a Vegan Bistro and Juice Bar that recently opened in Grimsby, Ontario. Okay, so they opened almost a year ago and we’re a bit late with finding out, but we still wanted to let you know about this awesome vegan option west of Toronto! Hippocrates’ Daughter serves up “Vegan Food Fit For the Hungriest Carnivore.” “After health issues and allergies forced us to alter our way of eating, we made it our mission to provide wholesome, delicious food to the Niagara region that would satisfy vegans and non-vegans alike; all while eliminating animal products entirely.” The menu features starters like a vegan artichoke dip and nachos, as well as nutrient-packed bowls like the Laughing Buddha Bowl (pictured) with spicy chickpeas, avocado, roasted sweet potato, spinach, onions, marinated cabbage, topped with turmeric tahini dressing served on top of tofu fried rice. There’s also hearty sandwiches like the Ruby Tuesday (a vegan version of the Reuben) with house-made seitan, and entrees like the Falafel Waffle Plate (yup, waffles made of falafels). Wong’s Ice Cream (617 Gerrard St. E. (at Broadview), 416-778-8883, www.wongsicecream.com) is a new Asian-style ice cream parlour that opens on June 14th in East Chinatown. With plenty of vegan and gluten-free options in the flavour rotation, Wong’s focuses on Asian-inspired flavours like Orange Candied Ginger, Mango Sticky Rice, Lemongrass Lime, and Vietnamese Coffee. In addition to ice cream, Wong’s will be serving pour-over coffees as well as stock select pantry items such as snacks, candies, chocolates, baking ingredients, and various other small-batch artisanal goodies. Off The Hook Gourmet Co. (749 Broadview Ave., 416-465-4356, www.offthehookfishandchips.com) is a fish and chips restaurant in the east end that recently added a vegan fish and chips option! The gluten-free Eggplant “fish” dish features deep fried eggplant, fresh cut fries, vegan tartar sauce and coleslaw vinaigrette. There’s also other vegan options on the menu, such as vegan poutine, as well as the Eggplant and Sweet Potato Burrito with sweet potato, fried eggplant, back beans, pico de gallo and mango salsa. New Vegan-Friendly Health Food Store Locations
Organic Garage (www.organicgarage.com) is opening their new third location in the Junction! Located at 43 Junction Road, just north of Keele and Dundas, the new 15,000 square foot flagship store will open at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5th. Organic Garage is a large health food store, known for its fair prices and great selection, including many vegan products. The first 100 people to arrive at the grand opening of the Junction store will receive a free tote bag. The new location will also offer month long opening specials along with its bi-weekly flyer specials. There will also be grand opening product demos and samplings on Saturday July 8 and Sunday July 9, 2017. Located at Danforth and Coxwell Ave., Warehouse Organics is a small, family-owned shop that carries fresh and prepared foods, and many vegan products, including vegan egg, cheese, milks and “meats” (including Beyond Meat products!).
