Vegetarian Directory Updates – April 2016
New Vegan Ice Cream Parlour
Nanashake (4750 Yonge St., Unit 134, 416-226-NANA (6262), www.nanashake.com) is Toronto’s first all vegan frozen dessert parlour! “We serve a unique and original range of vegan soft-serve and popsicle treats. All of our desserts are made using frozen bananas as a base and then depending on the flavour, we add a unique combination of nuts, fruits and other plant-based ingredients.” Some of these flavours include Rosey Pistachio, Minty Chocolate, Spiced Date, as well as classics such as Chocolate, Strawberry and Original. You can also load these flavours with toppings such as black bean brownies (from YamChops!), double chocolate ginger cookies, coconut shavings, raw almonds, crunchy cereal, and Oreos. Each flavour is also available in a frozen pop form, called NanaPops. Located at Yonge and Sheppard, Nanashake is a trek north of downtown, but for vegan and non-vegan dessert lovers alike, it’s worth the trip! Check out the website for more details on our flavours and their story, and find Nanashake on Facebook and Twitter.
New Vegan Baked Goods
Vegebitez (9-2460 Neyagawa Blvd., Oakville, 905-844-4888, www.vegebitez.com) is making some big changes to their location! As of early March, Vegebitez made the decision to eliminate their dine-in service in order make room for an in-house bakery to satisfy a demand for vegan, gluten-free sweets. “We are truly excited for this change and being able to bring out your Inner Sweet Tooth! Thank you again for your continued support, it honestly means the world to us!” Make the trip to Oakville and try delicious desserts such as Blueberry Lemon Scones dusted with powdered sugar, Banana-Date Bread (completely sweetened with dates), and the “Seriously Delicious” French Vanilla Cupcake, filled with homemade strawberry jam and topped with strawberry cream cheeze icing (pictured). Not a sweet tooth? Vegebitez still offers their full menu for takeout and delivery (delivery available to all of Oakville for free, and Burlington, Mississauga and Milton for a Small Charge). Visit Vegebitez on Facebook and Twitter for more updates, and pics of their fresh-baked, delicious treats!
Tabülè (2009 Yonge St., 416-483-3747 & 810 Queen St. E., 416-465-2500, www.tabule.ca) is opening a third location in the new Canary District! The new location will be located in the Cherry St. and Bayview area, and will serve the same delicious Middle Eastern vegetarian options as their first two locations, along with some exciting new menu items. “We have fresh new menu items planned and a few traditional surprises… Let’s just say brunch is about to get a makeover!” Follow Tabülé on Facebook and Twitter for more updates and details on the new location, and visit their website for a full menu.
Along with Tabülè, also opening in the same development will be a new location of Fuel +, and, as we reported last month, a second location of Tori’s Bakeshop. It seems this new developing area will feature independent businesses that focus on health and wellness. Stay tuned for more updates on the grand openings of these businesses and possibly more!
Urban Herbivore ( 220 Yonge St. (Eaton’s Centre), 64 Oxford St. (Kensington), 416-927-1231, 967 College St., 416-515-8885, www.herbivore.to) has a brand new menu you just gotta try! The new items include plenty of bowls, sandwiches, and more, “Like our Potato Club with Cheeze sandwich or our super fresh Tiger Bowl. As always, there’s a ton of gluten-free options!” There’s so many new delicious-looking new sandwiches, including the Chickpea Salad Caesar sandwich with chickpea salad, tomatoes, sprouts, lettuce, and a creamy garlic aioli, the Tempeh Avocado Pesto Breadwich with baked ginger tempeh steak, avocado, green pea pesto, tomatoes, pickled cucumbers, lettuce and garlic aioli, and a Sweet Chili “Chicken”, with lettuce, avocado, tomatoes, kimchi and- you guessed it- garlic aioli (pictured). Check out Urban Herbivore on Instagram to see more mouth-watering new menu items, and follow on Facebook for more updates.
Opening Day Update
Last month we alerted you to the opening of a brand new location of Grasshopper Restaurant (310 College St., 647-340-3666, www.grasshopperrestaurant.ca) opening in the Junction neighbourhood (3080 Dundas St. W., www.grasshopperrestaurant.ca). The opening day has been confirmed as April 15th, so mark your calendars for next Friday to stop by the new location and enjoy some delicious, vegan comfort food!
