New Gluten & Dairy-free Bakery
Tia’s Bakery (761 Pape Ave., 416-462-9777, www.tiasbakery.ca) originally started in Guelph several years ago, and has now opened a new Toronto location for their gluten and dairy-free bakery. Just steps from Pape subway station north of the Danforth, Tia’s is a family-run business specializing in catering to those with food intolerances and allergies. Orders can also be made egg, nut, and corn free. There is seating as well as a small patio, coffee (with soy milk, soy cream, or coconut milk), and a counter that is full of delicious cakes, cookies, warm, sugared, pumpkin doughnuts, as well as gluten-free breads. Custom cake orders are also available. “Tia has spent years perfecting her recipes, and prides herself in making tasty treats to satisfy any customer.” To top it off, Tia’s also has a Saturday brunch menu, which includes gluten-free Belgian Waffles! Rawlicious (718 Belmont Ave. W., Kitchener, 519-603-8281, www.rawlicious.ca) is now open in Kitchener! The eighth and newest location of the growing raw food restaurant opened its doors on September 2nd. Kitchener, if you’ve never tried raw food before, it’s a good time to start! In addition to the three Toronto locations, as of September 3rd, you can now find Pure + Simple’s all organic skincare, cosmetics, and spa treatments at 1-42 Bridgeport Rd. Come by, have a cup of herbal tea, get a facial, and find organic skincare products and cosmetics that are free of petroleum, chemical fragrance, colour, and preservatives. Pizza Rustica (7700 Bathurst St., Thornhill, 905-597-0530, www.pizzarustica.ca) has opened a new location north of Toronto in Thornhill. The new location features all of the same vegan-friendly options as the downtown locations, including the Californian, Caramelized Onion & Arugula (with vegan pepperoni), Rosemary Potato, and the new Mexicana with chipotle pepper sauce, vegan ground “beef”, Daiya Mozzarella & Pepperjack Cheddar, corn, black beans, and green onions. New Veg & Vegan Poutine Option
Poutineville (296 Brunswick Ave., 647-349-2345, www.poutineville.com), a Montreal-based restaurant and bar specializing in Poutine of every variety, offers Daiya Cheese for vegetarians & vegans! You can also choose from a variety of veg like tomatoes and black olives to grilled zucchini or guacamole if you want to spice up your order. Find Toronto’s new Poutineville location in the Annex, just south of Bloor between Bathurst and Spadina stations.
New Juice Bars
The Junction neighbourhood has a new juice bar! The Raw Chemist Juice Bar (647-350-0729, www.therawchemist.com) has opened up at 2984 Dundas St. West (at Pacific Ave) and produces cold pressed juices daily, as well as smoothies. Packed full of raw nutrients, all juices and smoothies use at least 90 percent organic ingredients, and are from local farmers’ markets whenever possible.
