Vegetarian Directory Updates – June 2014
New Cat Café
Kitty Cat Café (www.kittycatcafe.ca), Toronto’s very first cat café, is opening this fall! As if enjoying the company of cats while sipping on coffee isn’t wonderful enough, all food served at the café will be 100% vegetarian! “Kitty Cat Café will be a space where animal lovers can get their caffeine and kitty fix all at once. You can hang out with friends (two legs or four), work, study, enjoy free WiFi, or just relax…all in the company of furry felines.” All cats at the café will be from TEAM Cat Rescue, a Toronto-based non-profit, volunteer and foster based cat rescue organization. The goal of the café is not only to provide cat-lovers with the perfect hang out spot, but to also be another route to adoption for Toronto’s cats in need of a loving home. “Our city is also overflowing with kind, generous people who would love nothing more than to spend time enjoying the company of some sweet cats. Kitty Cat Café wants to bring them together, in what will be one of the most exciting new ventures to hit Toronto’s already-vibrant café culture.” Kitty Cat Café will offer special events “like Cat’s Pyjama’s movie nights, talks by veterinarians and animal nutrition and behaviour specialists, and Litter-ature nights through the Dundas West Animal Hospital, where kids can read books to cats!” Follow Kitty Cat Café on Facebook and Twitter, and go to their website for more information. Donations to help fund the start up costs of the business are welcome! Stay tuned to Directory Updates to find out about the opening day.
New Veg Butcher Shop Opening Soon!
YamChops (705 College St. (at Montrose), 416-645-0117, www.yamchops.com) is officially open for business on Monday, June 9! The shelves are being stocked with delicious vegetarian and vegan goodies as we speak and staff are eagerly preparing for your arrival. Stop by for fresh and frozen prepared meals, sauces, soups, burgers, grains, salads, pasta, chili, soups, and much more, prepared in their in house kitchen. “Our recipes appeal to all types of eaters: flexitarians, those who are choosing to reduce their meat consumption, vegetarians and vegans. We have a lot of fun and take some creative license when we turn a commonly understood animal protein on its head by substituting a plant-based protein instead. A great example of this is our Carrot Lox (pictured)… made with organic carrots cured in our own secret marinade. Top it off with capers, red onion, dill and cashew sour cream…” The shop will also feature tons of brands of veggie “meats” and other protein and dairy replacements, as well as canned goods, sauces, pickles, etc. from some of the finest local food artisans. View the menus online, from which you can order lunch delivery to your office, like the Grilled Indonesian Tofu box, or the Korean BBQ Empanada Box. “YamChops boxes make the perfect lunch. Delicious, filling and made with really good stuff.” A dinner menu for home delivery is soon to come. Also available in store and online for morning delivery and cleanses are organic, raw, cold-pressed juices from AuJus by YamChops. With so much to look forward to in one little shop, this is guaranteed to be a food experience like no other! Open daily from 11-7. Follow YamChops on Facebook and Twitter for updates, and go to their website for more details and the complete menus.
