New Vegetarian Locations
Grasshopper Restaurant (310 College St., 647-340-3666, www.grasshopperrestaurant.ca) is Toronto’s newest all-veg restaurant and is “passionate about making vegetarian food taste great above all else”. Open as of mid-February, Grasshopper’s debut menu features “cross-cultural comfort foods”, such as Quinoa Mac n’ Cheeze, “Pulled Pork” Banh Mi, a Tempeh Sloppy Joe, and incredibly crispy and delicious “Chick-un Nuggets”, all made from scratch in-house. In addition to craving-satisfying comfort food, Grasshopper also features a nutrient-packed Kale’N Cabbage salad, rice bowls and soups. “Join us for lunch or dinner in our casual and cozy contemporary setting, walk in for convenient take-away or call ahead for catering.” Grasshopper is located just around the corner from Kensington Market, but don’t wait until the next time you’re in the area, make a special trip- it’s that good. YamChops (705 College St., www.yamchops.com) has a storefront location and will be opening soon! The new shop, located at College and Montrose (a few blocks east of Ossington), is a Vegetarian Butcher & Prepared Foods shop set to open in mid-May. What does a Vegetarian Butcher Shop sell you ask? So many delicious things- including Vegetarian and Vegan protein alternatives (Veg “meats” of all kinds!), fresh & frozen packaged products including Vegetarian and Vegan meals, salads, soups and desserts, as well as sauces, dressings, chutneys, dips, and a whole lot more. In addition to being homemade, whenever possible YamChops products will be non-GMO, local and organic, and many items will also be gluten-free. YamChops is “a unique food experience”, that will offer storefront retail and pickup, home/office delivery, and catering. The Goods (1255 Dundas St. W., 416-843-2127, www.thegoodsisgood.com) “real food, organic when possible, mostly raw, almost vegan, always gluten-free” meal delivery service has opened a storefront at 1255 Dundas West (at Dovercourt). “As of [February 7], we will be opening our takeout to the public. We’ve got big time butterflies but thanks to our wonderful delivery customers over the past 14 months, many of whom have eaten our lunches every single day, we’ve nailed salad bowls and smoothies.” The drill for delivery will operate as usual- visit The Goods’ website to view the menu and pre-order online. Ital Vital (741 Pharmacy Ave., 416-755-4825, email@example.com) is a new all-Vegan Caribbean food takeout joint that has opened up in Scarborough. A very welcome addition to the neighbourhood, Ital Vital is a friendly “Rastarant” that offers up flavourful Caribbean cuisine in generous portions. “We are committed to serving the highest quality delectable and full flavoured meals that heal, nourish, and vitalize your mind, body, and soul!” Ital Vital is brand new, and does not have much of a web presence yet, so let’s encourage the Veg scene in Scarborough by checking this little gem out and spreading the word!
Lipstick and Dynamite (992 Queen St. W. (at Ossington), is now open! In addition to offering a very vegan and vegetarian-friendly menu, Lipstick and Dynamite is a casual hang-out with board games, book-trading, WiFi, and weekend brunch, and focuses on local, ethically sourced food and beer from local breweries. Wok Box (266 Hays Blvd, Oakville, 289-725-9777/ 855 Taunton Road E., Unit 4, Oshawa, 905-440-0-WOK, www.wokbox.ca), a franchise restaurant that got its start in Alberta and is rapidly spreading across North America, has opened two new locations in Oakville and Oshawa. “Wok Box makes fresh, healthy Asian dishes that are quick & absolutely delicious”, and offers special diet options including Vegan, Vegetarian, and Wheat-free (Click here to view the many options). Bunner’s Bake Shop (3054 Dundas St. W., 647-352-2975, www.bunners.ca) has a cookbook coming out this spring! Bunner’s official cookbook, filled with all of your favourites such as decadent cupcakes, muffins, and sticky cinnamon buns, has gone to print and is scheduled for release April 15! New Veg & Vegan Menu
Pizza Rustica (270 Wellington St. W. (at Blue Jays Way), 416-260-0200, www.pizzarustica.ca) has released an all new Veg & Vegan pizza menu “Our Vegan Vegetariano Pizza menus are here and we are excited to share them with our favourite customers!” The new menu includes seven new pizzas, three of which are Vegan- including the Caramelized Onion and Arugula with basil & sundried tomato pesto sauce, vegan pepperoni, Daiya mozzarella, spicy caramelized onions, arugula, and cherry tomatoes.
