This product isn’t available in Ontario yet, but MeShell reviewed her sample and it seems legit. Really real vegan eggs! “Once upon a time I saw The Vegg online and I thought it was some sort of April Fools Prank that wasn’t possible….Unlike many vegans, I don’t miss cheese, I miss over-easy (easy-over?) eggs. It’s a textural thing that isn’t easy to duplicate through conventional tofu magic. It’s something you can do with a bit of molecular gastronomy (spherification) and black salt to some degree, but it’s not something that’s as easy as crushing up some tofu and throwing it in a pan. Until now.“ The Vegg is a versatile egg yolk replacer that can be used (instead of eggs) in a wide range of recipes, and you can even use it straight as a liquid “yolk” for dipping toast. In fact, it looks, smells, and even tastes like eggs – but without all the

Feel Good Guru (917 Queen St. W., 647-748-5800) has just opened across from Trinity Bellwoods park! They offer “hyper-local super-awesome organic plant-powered vegan takeout” Read a bit about it on VegNews, and MeShell’s review on Yelp!
Epic Restaurant (100 Front St. W., 416-860-6949) Maggie B writes: “For those looking for something upscale for special occasions or a night out, the Royal York’s Epic restaurant now offers vegan options. Yummy! Royal York’s Epic restaurant has a specialty menu that includes Vegan, Raw Vegan and Macrobiotic dishes! The Vegan menu offers a mushroom soup and a green salad with pomegranate, beets, peanuts and rosemary vinaigrette. The mushroom soup has Yukon gold potato chunks and prairie grains adding a wonderful texture. Mains include eggplant lasagna and Thai red curry tofu with chickpeas. The Thai red curry tofu, served with basmati rice on the side, is perfect for those that like a spicy dish! For dessert, options are sorbet, fresh fruit and a watermelon salad. The watermelon salad brings small rectangles of ripe, juicy seedless watermelon together with syrupy but tart balsamic vinegar and a swath of bright, sweet raspberry coulis, accented with fresh raspberries and blackberries and sugared thyme.
360 The Restaurant at the CN Tower (301 Front St. W., 416-868-6937) It’s “one of Toronto’s finest, features unforgettable food combined with a magnificent revolving view of Toronto more than 351 metres (1,151 ft) below.” 360 has a vegetarian lunch and dinner menu. Enjoy dishes like: “East asian crispy baby eggplant with curried vegetable protein, with shallots, and toasted coconut panneer for $35. Also Saskatchewan wild rice pudding with pistachio praline, coconut and mango $10 for dessert. Menus available here.
TVA volunters Lisa P (Vegan Culinary Crusade) and Nicole A (A Dash of Compassion) both have amazing vegan food blogs. The photography is always outstanding and I often dream picking up something and biting into it right off the screen! Now you can! As they are “often recipe testing, reviewing cookbooks and playing with new creations in our kitchens and the result is very limited fridge space and abundance of delicious vegan delights. The Treat of the Month Club is open to anyone who is willing to pick up their servings in the GTA. Once a month, we’ll arrange a meet-up in a downtown cafe to distribute the goods. If you’re unable to make it, we’ll arrange with you to plan a pick up from us directly.” I just picked up my first order last week, and I’m hooked! Read about the May instalment here.
