Bake-OffWhere?

918 Bathurst St., just north of Bloor and Bathurst subway station

When?

February 4, 2012: 2 - 4:30 pm

Who?

You! The Totally Fabulous Vegan Bake-Off is for bakers AND samplers.

Contestants: This is where you get to show off your mad baking (and maybe un-baking, for the raw foodies out there!) skills! Your delicious tidbits can win you appreciation, respect, fame, and fantastic prizes donated by our amazing sponsors. You can enter your original vegan creations in one or more of the following five categories. If you’re not a professional, we recommend you participate in no more than two categories, as you must provide 100 bite-sized samples for each category AND a full sample of each item for the display table.

Gourmands and Connoisseurs: Are you more interested in devouring desserts than in creating them? Bring your appetite, celebratory attitude and pocket change to 918 Bathurst Street on February 4th, 2012! Incredible sweets in five categories will be waiting for you and your discerning palates. Tickets will be sold for plates (each plate will contain 6 different samples for you to vote on) in each category—you can buy one plate or plates from all categories! Samples are limited, so plan ahead and arrive on time. Savour your samples, record your ratings on your ballot, and enter the audience challenges to win amazing prizes!

Registration Details

***REGISTRATION FOR CONTESTANTS IS NOW CLOSED AS OF 5 PM JANUARY 27TH**

INSTRUCTIONS FOR REGISTRATION

Please review completely before submitting your entry.

1. Rules for participants

  • To enter you must be a member of the Toronto Vegetarian Association (this is due to the City of Toronto health regulations). If you are not a member yet you can join online (please see further details on joining below).
  • To enter you must complete the entry form by 5pm on FRIDAY JANUARY 27TH (that also means you can’t change your entry after that date - due to printing and logistic deadlines).
  • You must be available from 1pm-5pm on February 4th, 2012.
  • You must prepare 100 bite-sized samples of your entry (seriously - one small bite) and one serving that will be judged on presentation and taste.
  • You must prepare a sign with the title of your entry to go on the presentation table.
  • You must prepare a list of ingredients to leave with the event volunteers in case of allergy concerns.
  • Your entry must fit under one of the following categories: Terrific Vegan Treats (cookies/bars), Terrific Vegan Treats (cupcakes/tarts), Glorious Vegan and Gluten-Free Sweets, Decadent Vegan and Raw Desserts, Professionally Crafted Vegan Classics (for professional chefs and businesses) *please note that these categories are subject to change slightly, depending on the number of entries received*
  • All participants must pay a $10 entry fee. In return you will receive: an event t-shirt (designed by Sick on Sin on American Apparel t-shirts), 2 sample plate tickets, the opportunity to win fabulous prizes, the opportunity to have your recipe published online (including links to your blog or webpages), a certificate of your achievement and more. NOTE: If you are not yet a member of TVA, you will also need to make a membership donation in addition to your $10 entry fee.

2. Restrictions on Ingredients

  • Vegan - everything prepared for this event must be vegan: no eggs, no dairy, no meat, no gelatin, no whey, no honey can be used in your creation. If you're looking for guaranteed vegan ingredients, we suggest checking TVA's vegetarian directory.
  • Raw - for entry into the raw dessert category you must use ingredients that have not been heated above 118 degrees. Although there is some controversy about the “rawness” of certain ingredients, you may use agave syrup that is labelled as “raw”. However, maple syrup can not be used.
  • Gluten-Free - As taste testers who have celiac disease may sample from the gluten-free category you must not use any ingredients that may contain gluten. If oats are used they must be certified as gluten-free.

3. Next Steps to Register:

You must complete BOTH steps to register as a participant in the 4th Annual Totally Fabulous Vegan Bake-Off
