New vegetarian-friendly discoveries
Wednesday, 26 March 2008

Daily Apple Centre (35 Lytton Blvd, at Duplex, 416-899-1990) offers yoga, Pilates, cooking classes and naturopathic treatments, but they also offer organic, ready-made meals and snacks to take home. The homemade oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are vegan. According to sweetspot.ca, Daily Apple’s culinary take-aways are fast becoming Toronto’s best-kept secret: their spelt-chocolate Little Miss Muffins and spicy Couch Potato casserole are recurrent favourites.

La Cabana (467 Danforth Ave, at Logan, 416-461-0556): Jane emailed us to say: "I just ate the best vegan nachos on the planet. Las Cabana offers a lot of vegetarian and vegan options. They will make dishes dairy free and they taste great." Toronto.com reports that they serve authentic Mexican cuisine in the heart of Greektown. Guacamole, enchiladas, etc.

Salad Spa (90 Eglinton Ave E, 416-487-2523, www.saladspa.com): Shawn emailed us: "I am typically not much of a salad-vegetarian myself – but there is a great new restaurant at Eglinton just east of Yonge called Salad Spa. It's a create-your-own-salad place with lots of great vegetarian and vegan options. They also have smoothies including non-dairy ones. Take away and sit in."

Stores and supplies

Turquoise Wholistic (78 Main St N, n. of Hwy 7, Markham, 905-471-9902) is a natural food store and naturopathic dispensary recommended by a reader. They supply products to naturopaths and fill their prescriptions. They aim to only carry the best quality organic products. Basic organic produce will be available in the future. Closed Sun.

RawNutrition.ca (www.rawnutrition.ca, 819-453-2220) is a Canadian online raw food shop offering: juicers, dehydrators, Vita-Mix food processors, sprouters, blenders, vegan organic and raw living foods, books and ebooks. Located in the Ottawa valley. Shipping available across Canada.
