 Be part of the largest vegetarian festival in North America!

All positions take place at the 26th Annual Vegetarian Food Fair from Friday, September 10 to Sunday, September 12 (unless otherwise noted).



SET-UP/TAKE-DOWN

RETAIL MERCHANDISER
▪ DUTIES: Setting up TVA’s exhibit spaces into fabulous display areas to promote TVA’s programs, offer free literature, and sell TVA books at the Food Fair.
▪ QUALIFICATIONS: Must be creative, self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision. Experience setting up retail displays or other types of displays preferred.

LOADING CREW FRIDAY
▪ DUTIES: Loading TVA display materials, books and merchandise from the TVA office into our cargo van. Unloading materials from our cargo van at Harbourfront Centre. Transporting materials to appropriate venues at Harbourfront Centre as marked on boxes.
▪ QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to follow instructions and perform moderate to heavy lifting down a flight of stairs. Must travel from TVA to Harbourfront Centre once loading is done at TVA in order to complete unloading at Harbourfront Centre. TTC tokens will be provided.

▪ QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to follow instructions and perform moderate to heavy lifting up a flight of stairs. Must travel from TVA to Harbourfront Centre once loading is done at TVA in order to complete unloading at Harbourfront Centre. TTC tokens will be provided.



DURING EVENT:

FOOD FAIR INFORMATION CUSTOMER SERVICE
▪ DUTIES: Staffing the food fair information booth. Answering people's questions about upcoming speakers, cooking demonstrations, and helping to direct people to various exhibitors. Promoting upcoming talks and cooking demos, and generally answering attendees questions while at the fair.
▪ QUALIFICATIONS: Must be outgoing and have excellent customer service skills.
 

BOOKSTORE CASHIERS
• DUTIES: Processing payments for book sales and memberships at the TVA Bookstore.  Clearly marking and recording all purchases.
• QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to follow instructions, and be friendly and outgoing. Cashier experience preferred.

TVA BOOKSTORE SALESPERSON
▪ DUTIES: Staffing the TVA bookstore. Helping shoppers select cookbooks and books, answering people’s questions and directing them to the cash for payment.
▪ QUALIFICATIONS: Must be outgoing and have excellent sales and customer service skills. Volunteers with retail sales experience or a knowledge of the latest cookbooks and authors preferred.


TVA OUTREACH TABLER  (Must be Vegetarian)
• DUTIES:  Staff TVA tables where you’ll provide information regarding the organization, and the programs we offer to support vegetarians. Provide information on the benefits of vegetarianism and answer the public’s questions about TVA and a vegetarian diet. Encourage people to join TVA and handle sales of membership donations, including processing payments.
• QUALIFICATIONS: Must be outgoing and have excellent sales and customer service skills. Great verbal communication skills, friendly disposition and be knowledgeable about vegetarianism and TVA.  Must be vegetarian.

COSTUME WEARERS AND ASSISTANTS
▪ DUTIES: Wearing one of TVA’s fruit/veggie costumes to promote the Food Fair. Costume Wearers will be assigned in pairs (1 costume wearer and 1 assistant) to roam the site at the Food Fair and apply temporary tattoos to interested patrons or distribute programs and vegetarian directories. Please note in your application if you’re interested in being a costume wearer or assistant, and if there is someone you would like to be paired with.
▪ QUALIFICATIONS: Must be friendly, outgoing, and willing to wear a costume. Must be willing to have your picture taken by Food Fair visitors.

EVENT ASSISTANTS
▪ DUTIES: Distributing survey forms to visitors as they enter the lecture/workshop venue at the Food Fair. Collecting completed survey forms as visitors leave. Recording attendance to all lectures and workshops and reporting this information back tot TVA staff.
▪ QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to follow instructions.

VOLUNTEER CHECK IN ASSISTANTS
▪ DUTIES: Assisting TVA staff with checking in and checking out TVA volunteers at the Food Fair.
▪ QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to follow instructions and help volunteers in a friendly manner. Excellent customer service skills.

VEGGIE CHALLENGE  CREW (Must be Vegetarian)
▪ DUTIES: Explaining the Veggie Challenge to the public at the Food Fair and encouraging people to participate.
▪ QUALIFICATIONS: Must be vegetarian. Must have excellent verbal communications skills and a strong understanding of vegetarian issues. Volunteers will be asked to complete the Veggie Challenge prior to the food fair if you have not already done so.

COOKING DEMO ASSISTANTS
▪ DUTIES: Cleaning the cooking demo area and demo equipment in the cooking demo venue at the Food Fair. Helping cooking demonstrators with setup, teardown, and all other items as needed. Distributing demo samples to the public. Recording attendance to all sessions and reporting this information back to TVA staff.
▪ QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to follow instructions and perform general cleaning tasks, including some light lifting.

PROGRAM DISTRIBUTORS - Family-Friendly Position
▪ DUTIES: Distributing free Food Fair programs to visitors entering the Food Fair. Program Distributors will typically be assigned in pairs to stand at specific entrance areas at the Food Fair.  Some Programs Distributors will also be asked to go off site and hand out programs in the neighbourhood/at the ferry docks.
▪ QUALIFICATIONS: Must be friendly and outgoing. Parents and children may volunteer together.

EXHIBITOR SERVICES ATTENDANT
▪ DUTIES:  Hand out parking passes to exhibitors. Respond quickly to inquiries. Inspect booths to make sure they are in compliance with Food Fair Exhibitor Policies.
▪ QUALIFICATIONS: Good verbal communication skills, exceptional time management skills and professional demeanor.

FOOD FAIR STREET TEAM – NEW!
• DUTIES: Meet with the team once or twice a week in the three weeks leading up to the food fair to hit major hotspots in downtown Toronto where you’ll put up posters and hand out flyers promoting the event.
• QUALIFICATIONS: Outgoing demeanor and comfortable engaging the public. Ability to meet and travel to different locations in the city.
 

TVA EXPERT (FLOATER) – NEW!  (Must be Vegetarian)
• DUTIES: This is an “on-call” position for experienced TVA volunteers who can fill in for a variety of volunteer positions in the case of no-shows or volunteer shortages. Positions may include tabling, cashiers, program distributors, volunteer checkin and veggie challenge crew.
• QUALIFICATIONS: Must be vegetarian. Must have experience volunteering with TVA, and must complete TVA’s Key Messages Online Training if not yet completed. Should be flexible, outgoing and have great customer service skills.
