Farmers' markets are the places best places to find fresh seasonal produce such as squash, pumpkins, corn, tomatoes, green beans, potatoes, peppers, arugula, kale, broccoli, etc. Avoid stress when vegetarians and meat eaters will be at the same meal. Bring your own containers. Le Commensal (several locations in Quebec and one in Toronto) has an excellent selection in their buffet. They also carry pre-packaged savoury pies, pâtés, fancy desserts, etc.
- Larger natural food stores [Toronto, World Links] carry Tofurky (“a bird-free feast with all the trimmings”) and a wide variety of vegetarian dips, pâtés, faux meats, frozen entrees, non-dairy ice cream, pies, and much more.
- Arrange for some of the guests to contribute a dish.
- At some point after the meal, ask for help with the dishes and clean-up. Many hands make light work.
- Prepare some of the items ahead of time. Use easy recipes that you are already familiar with.

- Le Commensal is serving a feast this Thanksgiving weekend (Friday to Monday): Tofu roast with grilled vegetables, vegan gravy and cranberry sauce. For side dishes, we have Tomato with Feta cheese, Basil and Olive Oil, Steamed Brussel Sprouts, Butternut Squash Puree and Roasted Sweet Potato. For dessert we have Pumpkin Pie and Blueberry Pie.
- Ying Ying Soy Food in the St. Lawrence Market offers tofu roast and other fresh mock meat dishes.
- Soy-n-Joy has vegan "ice cream cakes" that you can order for the occasion.
- Kensington Natural Bakery is selling vegan pumpkin pies! You can order in advance by calling 416 534 1294.
- Some restaurants are closed for the holiday. Best to call first.
