Vegetarian blogs
Monday, 30 January 2006

In the Sixth Annual Weblog Awards known as the Bloggies™, Vegan Lunch Box won Best Food Weblog (scroll down half way). Unfortunately, there is no category for vegetarian blogs.

News and commentary

Vegan P*rn
• Daily
This is a very popular site run by Herman Thurst. Every day Thurst posts several news stories using subtle humour. An active readership sends him links to the latest news involving vegetarianism or animals. Thrust also writes a two page column for our newsletter, Lifelines.
Having the P word in the title results in tons of hits from people looking for something entirely different. Thrust is quite happy about the extra traffic and has ambitions of being the number one Google result for "P*rn." Incredibly, they are consistently displayed on the first page of search results! Their slogan: "Preaching to the Perverted." By the way, we avoid saying the P word on this website so that we don't get blocked by anyone's firewall. Fortunately, V.P. also have a work-safe URL: vegpub.com.

Being veggie

Raw foods

RawketScience: The Art of Raw Living
Update (May 2007): Robin who works at Toronto Sprouts, emailed us: "I have a website and a blog that I have been posting to for over a year. I advocate vegetarianism (raw-veganism actually)." The site has frequent postings, some beautiful photography, and plenty of recipes.

What The Hell Does A Vegan Eat Anyway?
• Daily

A simple vegan blog about what we eat everyday. This blog came together because once people know we're vegan, the first question we get asked is...What The Hell Does A Vegan Eat Anyway?

Delicious looking and sounding vegan creations. For example the entry for Jan. 12, 2006 was:

Bulgogi – Korean-Style Barbecue Seitan Wrap (seitan cut into strips, marinated with tamari, garlic, ginger, brown sugar, sesame oil, scallions, sesame seeds and then grilled. topped with asian pear, kimchee, scallion, sesame seeds and enoki mushrooms. served in a Bibb lettuce leaf)

Buttnernut Squash Soup with Coconut Milk (butternut squash, dried red chile, ginger, lemongrass, garlic, salt, pepper)

Note: they also have a large collection of food pictures on Flickr.
