Out of town: West

We’ve mentioned Rise Above Bakery (11 Summer St. St. Catharines) a few times, but this is BIG NEWS! They now have a take-out bakery with such crazy-cool delights like, Pie in a Jar, Gateaux Fauxmage  (Cherry Cheesecake,) Cinnamon Buns  Croissants and of course...   donuts! - $5.00

Sometimes Veggies get bummed when they go to a Omni restaurant and have to spend time scanning the menu... at Pan Cafe (120 St.Paul Street, St.Catharines) there are flags for vegan, lactose-free and gluten-free next to each item!  Vegans can endulge in items like Eggs Bryan: “No eggs here! Spiced tofu, fresh tomatoes stacked on toast and covered in a savoury avocado hollandaise sauce, served with mixed greens”

Out of town: East garden grove

The Garden Grove Juice Bar (11 Taunton Rd West, Oshawa) is fully vegan serving great fresh juices and smoothies! They write: “The Grove has a great atmosphere with a nice seating area. Customers are welcome to enjoy the table area for meetings and gatherings with friends! We have board games and lots of wonderful books to enjoy on our shelves too.”

Get out of town NOW!
Nonpareil Natural Health Retreat (Stirling, Ontario) is offering a Silent Retreat which focuses on meditation, relaxation, fasting and yoga. Act quick, it starts this Friday July 8th and runs until Monday July 11th 2011.

Health Food (and more! ) Store

Nature’s Emporium (16655 Yonge Street, Newmarket,905-898-1844) , wrote to let us know that they’ve gone through a massive expansion and now have 50,000 square feet of supplements, grocery, produce, health and beauty products, raw foods, a bakery, a juice bar, even a garden centre! Sound overwhelming? Well, “book a tour with a registered holistic nutritionist who can help you navigate our aisles while addressing your individual needs.”

Tips from the Street!

Though they have been around for a while now, thought I would let you guys know about Hotel Gelato (532 Eglington Ave. W).  In addition to carrying lots of desserts from Sweets from the Earth and LPK'S Culinary Groove , they always have a vegan chocolate gelato, and also I have tried their hazelnut gelato. I believe their fruit-based gelatos/sorbettos are also vegan (but who wants those when there's chocolate and hazelnut!) They also have vegan food on their regular menus.
