Palm Lane (87 Avenue Rd., Upper Level, Unit 226, 647-349-1085, www.palmlane.ca) is yet another restaurant from the creators of Planta that has recently opened in Yorkville. Located at 87 Avenue Rd, Palm Lane features salads and bowls especially designed to go above and beyond conventional healthy food. “We’re taking everything we’ve learned from years of innovative menu and putting the flavour, technique and excitement into Palm Lane’s salads and bowls.” Try salads like the Thai Crunch (pictured) with romaine, coconut, mango, pickled carrots & kohlrabi, grapefruit, mint, Thai basil, scallions, peanuts, crispy rice noodles, crispy shallots, tofu, and a Thai chili vinaigrette, or the Azteca bowl with brown rice, black beans, romaine, pickled vegetables, avocado, sweet corn, pepitas, cilantro, tortilla crisps, pico de gallo, chipotle cashew crema, with a cumin lime vinaigrette. Veggie Planet (6985 Davand Dr. Unit #1, Mississauga, 905-795-7950, www.veggieplanet.ca) is a new vegetarian restaurant that recently opened in Mississauga. If you like vegan comfort food and Indian cuisine, then you’ll love Veggie Planet’s menu. Everything from pizzas, burgers, and sides such as “chicken” nuggets, drumsticks, fries, etc., have been given a unique twist with Indian flavours. Try the Kachori Burger with a lentil and spice patty with Veggie Planet special chutney; or the Indian Masala Pizza with green Chili, ginger, garlic, onion, carrot, tomato and coriander. Apiecalypse Now (735 Bloor St. W., 416-516-4555, www.apiecalypsenow.com) is opening a second location in the east end! “We’ve heard the whimpers from east of Broadview for two whole years now, and we are so happy to announce, the east end pizza shortage is over.” Set to open by Halloween at Pape and Mortimer, the new location will have pizza and snacks, a kids’ menu, and also a fridge and freezer with take-home frozen meals, as well as all the favourite spreads and sauces. “Like a mini vegan grocery store, and pizza pocket all in one!” If that wasn’t enough exciting news, In addition to the new pizza shop, Apiecalypse Now is also working on a location for their new vegan burger venture, BRGR KVLT, also set to open this Fall. The Hogtown Vegan (1056 Bloor St. W., 416-901-9779, www.hogtownvegan.com) is opening a second location! This is big news for Toronto vegans and all lovers of delicious comfort food. Hogtown Vegan has become a Toronto icon over the years, and is synonymous with vegan comfort food. The new location is set to open in October at 382 College St., just west of Spadina, and will feature the same menu you know and love, including “Chicken” & Waffles (pictured), Mac ‘n Cheese, Fries Supremacy, and more.
