Vegetarian Directory Updates – September 2017
New Vegan Burger Restaurant
Planta (1221 Bay St., 647-348-7000, www.plantatoronto.com), one of Toronto’s favourite plant-based restaurants, is set to open burger spin-off! Planta Burger will be opening on September 8th at 4 Temperance St. (at Yonge), in the Financial District. Like the original Planta, the menu is skillfully developed by chef David Lee and will feature two types of burger- one made with mushrooms, lentils, and beets, and another “crab cake” burger made with hearts of palm and celeriac. There will also be an amazing selection of sides including cauliflower Buffalo wings, fries, tater tots, and onion rings, and drinks such as milkshakes and root beer floats. Anyone who has been to Planta knows how exciting this news is, and just how good these burgers are going to be! For more updates on the opening and menu items, follow Planta on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Vegan Pizza Option
Big Brothers Gourmet Pizza (3110 Kingston Rd., 416-269-9292) is a classic pizza joint located in Scarborough that we recently discovered has an entire section of vegan pizza options on their menu! Located on Kingston Rd., just east of McCowan, Big Brothers has four delicious-sounding pizzas on their menu, as well as the option to veganize any custom pizza with Daiya cheese. Choose from options like the Bruno with olive oil, garlic, fresh mushrooms, spinach, herbed tomatoes, artichokes and oregano. Visit Big Brothers on Facebook for more details, and either stop by for a slice or call for delivery! Open 7 days a week.
New Natural Food Store Locations
The Sweet Potato (2995 Dundas St. W., 416-762-4848, www.thesweetpotato.ca), an awesome local health food store and fixture in the Junction neighbourhood, is relocating and will soon officially be opening its doors at its new and location at 108 Vine Ave. In a beautiful historic building located just one street north of its present location on Dundas West and Pacific Ave, the new and expanded location is set to open on Thursday, September 21st. The new space will be over 300% bigger, with new departments including a bakery, and a larger in-store kitchen providing even more ready-made soups, salads, and prepared meals. There’s also a parking lot for easy access! To celebrate the grand opening, a “Baked Potato Block Party” will be happening on Sunday, September 24th outside the new location. Visit The Sweet Potato on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for regular updates, and check out their website for more details.
Little Green Planet (28 St Andrew St., 416-551-3685, www.littlegreenplanet.ca) is a new health food store that opened earlier in August in Kensington Market. Located right next to Moonbean Coffee Company on St. Andrew St., “Little Green Planet incorporates a wide selection of natural and organically made products catered to all your health food needs. We carry numerous types of gluten-free, vegan, Kosher licensed, and GMO-free merchandise. We are proudly Canadian-owned and operated and collaborate with local manufacturers whenever possible.” Although it has only been open a short time, this little shop seems to have some big fans already, and some rave reviews: “This place has lots of my favorite vegan and healthy products, the store is beautifully designed, spacious, clean and so well organized. The owners are friendly and helpful and the prices are competitive. Give them a visit!” Check out their website for more information and featured products, and visit Little Green Planet on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
