You may have noticed some new places popping up on the Toronto Veg Card lately (check http://veg.ca/directory/list/discount-list for an updated list). That’s in part due to the fact that it’s veg directory season! We’ve got Janine in this summer helping to update the Vegetarian Directory and get it ready to go to print in time for the Veg Food Fest.

What do you do at the Toronto Vegetarian Association?

I am helping prepare the 2017 Vegetarian Directory. Much of my job has to do with communicating with businesses and updating their listings in the directory database. The second phase of my job is to present workshops to various organizations and businesses to promote a plant-based diet.

How did you become interested in vegetarianism?

It started at a young age for me. I have always been very health conscious and as I grew older I learned more about the (various) benefits associated with with vegetarianism. As I am now pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Health, I hope to help educate more people about the importance of healthy eating.

What do you like most about working for TVA?

The staff here has really made my experience as a summer student something I won’t forget! They are all very resourceful and you can tell that they are passionate about what they do. It’s inspiring to be in this atmosphere- which is a big part of why I decided to transition to veganism (which you can read about in my TVA blog posts).

What is a hidden talent that people might not know about you?

One of my hidden talents that people might not know about me is that I can play the piano and sing! I attended arts schools from middle school until the end of high school so it was a major part of my childhood.

What is your favourite healthy meal or snack?

I love making smoothies. I pack them with a ton of fruits and veggies. It’s great for when you’re in a rush and there’s so many ways to be creative about it. They’re also quick and easy to make!

What is your favourite indulgence?

This is a tough one but I recently discovered organic Coconut Bliss ice cream and can’t get enough of it. I recommend the chocolate hazelnut fudge flavour.

The Veg Food Fest is coming up September 9-11… is there something you’re especially looking forward to?

This will be my first year attending the Veg Food Fest, so I’m looking forward to the entire experience! I love doing Yoga so I’ll be excited to try some of the yoga sessions.
