A vegetarian lifestyle introduces you to a wide range of nutritious recipes and dishes, and for many, vegetarianism encourages you to develop your culinary skills further.

You may find that although you have access to a wide variety of delicious vegetarian recipes and cooking tips, many recipes require all sorts of gadgets and appliances that can quickly become very confusing. We don’t want you to be discouraged from trying out interesting meals so we’ve put together this article which will discuss a handful of essential appliances that no plant-based kitchen would be complete without. Here we’ll explore how you can get the most out of each item, what you can use it for and the endless benefits they each have.

Blender

Blenders open the door to an array of meal and snack opportunities, and this appliance is arguably a staple for any kitchen, but especially for vegetarians and vegans, and/or people trying to eat healthily.

Blenders are quick and easy to use, and they allow you to make smoothies, soups, sorbets and healthy vegan ice cream, amongst many other recipes with little to no effort at all.

There are hundreds of different blenders available on the market ranging in price and, subsequently, in power and size. From the affordable hand blender to the much higher priced Vitamix or Blendtec, there’s a large variety of different blenders to suit all people of different lifestyles and preferences.

Food processor

While blenders are good at blending solids and liquids together in small quantities, the multi-tasking food processor is hugely beneficial if you want to quickly slice, chop, crush and puree solid foods without it becoming a workout.

Food processors are particularly beneficial for vegetarians and vegans, with a large number of recipes available. This kitchen essential is especially good if you want to make homemade sauces, dips, spreads, soups, pesto and salsa.

Slow cooker

As nights grow longer and colder, there’s nothing more comforting than a hot meal made in a slow cooker. This method is so easy and it doesn’t leave you frantically rushing to make dinner as you can leave it in the oven all day.

Some think that slow cookers can only be used for meaty casseroles, but there’s a huge range of vegetarian recipes, too. From soups, stews and main courses, to side dishes and condiments, as well as breakfasts and desserts, you’ll never be uninspired with a slow cooker, making it a kitchen essential for vegetarians, especially in the winter.

Vegetarian dishwasher tablets

Many households have a dishwasher, but not all of them use vegetarian/vegan dishwasher tablets. These are plant-based and are considered much more ethical than the standard type.

Plant-based dishwasher tablets are essential for a vegetarian or vegan kitchen as they contain no animal-based ingredients, they’re not tested on animals and they don’t contain any genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

Furthermore, these tablets are said to clean and degrease dishes in a hygienic, safe and efficient way, without leaving any residue of chemicals because they’re completely natural. My favourite is Ecover Natural Plant-Based Automatic Dishwasher Tablets, with a biodegradable formula and not tested on animals.
