Care of Vinyse Barber

On a chilly Saturday afternoon in January, my husband Derek and I attended a vegan (and gluten-free) Superbowl Snacks cooking workshop at Living City Health near Yonge and Eglinton. The workshop was led by Registered Holistic Nutritionist Kristin Light in conjunction with The Kitchen Library.

We kicked off the afternoon with a tour of The Kitchen Library; with a monthly subscription, you can borrow some amazing kitchen equipment such as a Vitamix, a food dehydrator (one of which is reserved for non-meat items), bread machines, and many other cool pieces of equipment that you may not have room to permanently store in your kitchen.

The cooking class was really fun and interactive, owing mostly to Kristin’s personality. As a team, we made poutine with “seize the cheez sauce” and mushroom gravy, green bean “buckwheat flax snax”, and “cheesy cauliflower popcorn”.  We got to snack on the delicious food as we cooked and were given recipes to take home.

TVA members get a discount on Kristin’s cooking workshops so we only paid $20 each to attend, which is a great deal considering what we learned, the food we ate, and the amount of fun we had.  We’re looking forward to attending more of Kristin’s workshops in the future!
