New Vegetarian Takeout
Veghed (1199 Dundas St. W., 416-841-6673) is Toronto’s newest all-vegetarian takeout! Located on Dundas St. W., just west of Ossington (where until now, not many vegetarian options existed), Veghed offers “the very best, chef crafted non GMO and Organic foods!” Veghed is a vegetarian fresh bar run by chef Ren Mercer, who has over 20 years’ experience cooking at high-end restaurants and hotels including the King Edward and the Windsor Arms. He now puts his years of experience towards offering beautiful and sophisticated vegetarian meals such as penne carbonara with lobster mushrooms, and pad thai with hemp, chia seeds and organic herb salad. The Vegan Duchess (2354 Yonge St., 416-519-4229, www.theveganduchess.ca) is a new “raw, organic quickserve” opening in the Yonge and Eglinton area. The Vegan Duchess will offer take-away raw, vegan, organic and gluten-free meals and snacks, as well as a juice bar. The grand opening is expected for January 2015, so stay tuned to Facebook and Twitter for further details!
Beechwood Doughnuts (5 James Street, Saint Catharines, email@example.com), will be opening soon in Saint Catharines! Two bakers from Rise Above, Niagara’s only Vegan Restaurant and Bakery, have branched off to start their own specialty vegan doughnut shop. “Beechwood will be producing a wide variety of handmade doughnuts made fresh daily as well as hot, fresh cinnamon buns in a variety of flavours.” Follow Beechwood Doughnuts on Facebook and Instagram for updates on opening day!
Belmonte Raw (1022 Queen St. E., 647-340-1218, www.belmonteraw.com), the popular destination for cold-pressed juices, gourmet raw meals and healthy snacks, is opening yet another boutique location! “If you haven’t heard the buzz around The Path already, the rumours are true: Another Belmonte Raw boutique is opening in the winter of 2015. Opening day will be announced shortly via social media so keep checking in! In the same mouthwatering tradition their known for, TBC now brings you mouthwatering vegan sandwiches! And if you’re imagining little, dainty vegetable sandwiches that will leave you wanting more, think again. These massive, loaded sandwiches are a meal and a half, and feature in-house made ingredients, from the amazing fresh bun, to vegan “meats” and homemade sauces. Choose from a variety of options like the classic BLT with seitan bacon, or the Widow Maker, with “roast beef” fried onions, jalapenos, and a cheesy sauce. New Vegan Pizza
Boon Burger Café (114 Dunlop St. E., Barrie, 705-503-0111, www.BoonBurger.ca) now serves vegan pizza! “Just a reminder that we will have our delicious pizzas available even though they are not on our menu! Made fresh to order, these pizzas are a perfect size to eat in, take out or order through our delivery services.” Although the pizza has only been available for a couple of days, the rave reviews are pouring in! MY Foods (363 Canarctic Dr., 416-636-6300, www.myfoodscanada.ca) is a new all-vegetarian meal company from Sepha Catering Ltd. that now provides frozen meals in Toronto grocery stores. Choose from Chik’n Stir Fry, Eggplant Parmesan, Chili Sans Carne, Smac ‘n Cheese, and Pasta F’olognese. Want to try a free sample?
