New Storefront Location
APieCalypse Now! (589 Markham St., 416-800-1736), the famous vegan pop-up has opened a storefront! After a few setbacks involving sub-zero temperatures and freezing pipes, at last now you can get their famous baked goods and savoury treats all in one place from their new location at 589 Markham St., just south of Bloor in the Annex. The location has had it’s grand opening the weekend of February 1st and 2nd, and is now open for business. Winter hours will be Thursday 3-9, Friday 12-7 and Saturday 12-7. Stop by not just for delicious sweet treats like Magic Squares, Butter Tarts, cookies and muffins, but also savoury heat & serve meals such as lasagna, gluten-free shepherd’s pie, chicken pot pies, and much more. You can even shop the cooler section for prepared items such as Organic cashew vegan ricotta cheese, “it’s great for pasta and casseroles!” Catering and delivery services are still available, call for details. Doug’s Public Kitchen- Now Open!
Doug’s Public Kitchen (561 Marlee Ave., dougmcnish.com), is the newest project of Doug McNish, and is a new space for all things organic, vegan, and gluten-free. Doug, a well-known Toronto-based “chef, consultant, educator, speaker, and committed plant pusher and activist” is dedicated to bringing organic, whole, vegan cuisine to the mainstream. The new kitchen space operates as a takeout spot for fresh, healthy meals, as well as a place to shop for the healthy living products, as well as delicious superfoods and snacks. The Kitchen will also be available for private bookings as “a gathering spot for friends, family, and business meetings, as well as a training center for chefs, and a culinary education facility for holistic health experts to develop chef skills.” A one-minute walk from Glencairn subway station, Doug’s Public Kitchen is open to the public Wednesday-Saturday from 11am-6pm, and Sundays from 10am-4pm for brunch and take-out.
