We are pleased to announce the long-anticipated opening of Truly India (979 O’Connor Drive, 647-881-2651)! Launched back in 2012, Truly India has had a place in the Toronto Vegetarian Directory for the past year, but has had delays in opening its doors. You can help them celebrate their success by joining them at their Grand Opening on Sunday, June 30 from 10am-6pm. You will get to meet the ladies who lovingly prepare the amazing, authentic and all vegetarian Indian cuisine, not to mention- there will be free samples of plenty! Officially open for business on July 1, Truly India offers a cozy interior, as well as take-out, delivery, and catering- and veg card holders save 10%! Brixton Grill (at the Dufferin Grove Farmer’s Market, 875 Dufferin, S. of Bloor, 647-779-8659) “is a brand-new all vegan BBQ food stall at the already vegan-friendly Dufferin Grove Farmers Market. We will be at Dufferin Grove every Thursday between 3-7pm until the fall, serving up an array of seasonal, organic and delicious grilled delights! Expect Tex-Mex Bean Burgers, Tofu Burgers, Seitan Hot-Dogs, BBQ Potatoes and local, seasonal salads, such as Grilled Asparagus for May and June. We will have a constantly evolving and changing menu as the season progresses and more local produce becomes available. New Locations for a Few of our Favourites
Organic Oven (31 Melanie Dr., Unit 7, Brampton, 905-459-2333) has been buzzing about the prospect of a new Toronto location for quite some time, and now we finally know where! Organic Oven Toronto will be opening its doors this summer at St. Gabriel Manor, just east of the Bayview village and west of Bassarion subway station. Now Torontonians can enjoy the same amazing extensive gluten-free, organic menu which includes everything from cakes to bagels, buns and bread. Cruda Café (93 Front St., St. Lawrence Market (S. Market), 647-346-6502) has been intriguing us with the buzz of a new location on their Facebook page. Although a date has not yet been confirmed, in the near future Cruda will be opening the doors of an all new full-size, state of the art restaurant, and raw foods and organic juice bar in the Distillery District. Since 2011 Raw Juice Guru (www.rawjuiceguru.com) has been preparing and providing juice cleanses and raw food for delivery to Toronto and all of Canada from the back of their Junction neighbourhood location… as of the second week of June, 3324 Dundas St. W. (at Runnymede) will open its front doors and welcome the public into its brand new storefront. Not only will you get to purchase their juices, cleanses, and raw foods directly from store, you will have access to a wealth of nutrition information from the gurus themselves. Belmonte Raw (1022 Queen St. E., 647-340-1218) is excited to announce the opening of their second location! As of May, a complete line of Belmonte Raw products, including their fabulous Organic Juice and Raw food Cleanses are available from 889 Yoga (889 Yonge St.) in Rosedale. Open from 9am-9pm, “come and visit us and sip and sample the raw revolution!”
New Nutrition and Wellness Services
Healthy U Turn (120 Eglinton Ave. E., 416-876-4634) is Maha Nasr, MD, PhD, RHN, a registered holistic nutritionist with a medical background. She is passionate about healing with natural nutrition and her goal is to educate and empower others to take control of their health naturally. “We provide holistic nutritionist services including in person and online nutritional counselling and assessment, personalized meal plans, grocery store tours and targeted nutrition programs for weight loss, detoxification, hormone balance and chronic disease.” Her office is located at Yonge & Eglinton, and Veg Card holders save 10% on consultations.
As of June 1, Prime Restaurant at the Windsor Arms Hotel (18 St. Thomas St., 416-971-9666) is now called The Living Room. Although the name has changed, the plethora of vegan options on their menu has not! Also check out their fully vegan Sunday brunch menu on their website.
The Lovemuffin Bakery (257 Euclid Ave., 416-428-3828) will be closed Wednesday, May 29 until Tuesday, June 18 due to wedding celebrations! After that, deliveries will continue their normal schedule of Tuesdays and Thursdays. And, as a thank-you for all the support, Lovemuffin Bakery is offering customers 10% off of their next order when they reopen!
Commensal (655 Bay St.,416-596-9364), a long time vegetarian restaurant based out of Montreal is closing three of its doors for good. This iconic chain which has been open since 1977 will be looking for ways to renew the business in the future, but for now its locations in Quebec City, Boisbriand, QC, and Toronto will be closed for business.
