Bake-Off to decide top vegan baker in Toronto

TORONTO – The Toronto Vegetarian Association’s 4th Annual Totally Fabulous Vegan Bake-Off will invite both everyday and professional bakers to showcase their innovation and talent. Some professional bakers participating include, Ashley Wittig from Bunner’s vegan bakery and Daniel Lewis from Green Zebra Kitchen.
Bakers may enter within one of the five categories including, cookies and bars, cupcakes/tarts/pastries, decadent raw sweets, gluten-free treats, and professionally crafted vegan classics. Best-in-Show and Best Presentation will be awarded by a celebrity judge, vegan chef extraordinaire Doug McNish. In addition to tasting sensational sweets, audience members will also be able to vote for their favourite dessert in each category. The prizes awarded will include, vegan cooking and baking books, gift certificates for fabulous local businesses, and goodie-filled gift baskets, which will be provided by our generous sponsors.
Other than the great entertainment this event provides, it also aims to prove that vegan baking is healthy, easy, fun and, most importantly, delicious.
Colleen Shea, the Totally Fabulous Vegan Bake-Off Coordinator has been vegan for eight years and is enthusiastic about vegan baking. She said she “recently went to Lisbon, Portugal just to try their first all-vegan bakery.” Audience members and participants will also have the opportunity to purchase various vegan cookbooks at the event.
The Toronto Vegetarian Association’s 4th Annual Totally Fabulous Vegan Bake-Off will take place at 918 Bathurst St. February 4th from 2 to 4:30. Sample plates are $3/per category. For more information visit veg.ca/bakeoff.
