As you read last month, Rashmi’s Veg Cakes is now Rashmi’s Bakery (80 Pertosa Dr, Brampton, 905-970-0666) because they are offering so much more than just cakes! They’ve expanded their offerings and everything tastes so fresh! Rashmi was nice enough to send over a wide range of samples (yes, my job is awesome) so I can share a review with you. You can also pick up any party decorations and supplies when you pick up your goodies. I shared all the vegetarian options with my veggie friends and omni family, here’s some of the things they had to say about a few of the favourites:
The vegan cake: the flavour we tried was strawberry shortcake and it was divine. The fruit was sweet and full of flavour, the icing was light and not overly sugary.
Lemon cake: this wasn’t vegan, but I was told it was very similar to the texture of the vegan cake. A light and moist lemon flavoured cake, with a luscious icing that isn’t too sweet.
Vegetable Patties: we’d never had anything like it! This tasted to us like the perfect blend of a dessert and a samosa. A mild curry potato filling inside a flaky puff pastry.
We also sampled cheesecake, fruit tarts, chocolate puffs, cupcakes, 3 flavours of pound cake, and coconut balls – it’s a good thing I had lots of “help” with the review! Everyone was really happy with the treats, and wouldn’t have thought twice about them being vegan or vegetarian if they were just offered to them blindly. Thanks Rashmi!

Rawlicious moving & opening new location!
Opening on September 3rd is a new Rawlicious location in Barrie. The space is “perfect; hard wood floors & exposed brick to boot. Swing by and visit the beautiful space at 50 Dunlop Street in downtown Barrie.”
Also in September “we are moving our Junction location down to a much bigger and more accessible space on Bloor Street West (just west of High Park). The space has high ceilings and is very open yet we are going to make it just as cozy and intimate as the Junction location has been for 3 years. We love the Junction & our building, however, we have outgrown it and with our expanding company are in need of a more functional space. Our last day in the Junction store will be August 28th so please come out and sit on our patio for one last time! The new address of the new store is 2122 Bloor Street West and will be open mid-September!”

Lesson: you just have to ask!
Kenneth writes: “My office was going to order from the Pickle Barrel so I called their office about vegan options and got this positive response: ‘Thank you for your request regarding our veggie burger. Yes the burger is vegan, the bun is as well [although this is made in a facility that uses eggs so they do claim it may have come in contact,] of course the pesto Aioli does have eggs so you can simply ask to not have this on the burger. As far as making another meal vegan we can certainly try our best – was there a specific dish you had in mind? Please let me know and I will check to see if this is possible.’”
